what is Well Equipped?

Well Equipped is a

DBT ADHERENT PROGRAM

DBT adherent treatment consists of four components:

  • Group skills training:
At Well Equipped, you’ll participate in nine hours of group therapy a week. We’ll do a deep dive and teach you specific tactics to manage emotions, cope with stress, and improve relationships.

  • Individual attention:
During weekly one-on-one case management sessions with a DBT trained therapist, you’ll focus on identifying and addressing specific challenges with new skills and perspective.

  • In the moment coaching:
You’ll have access to a DBT therapist in between sessions, to provide support and guidance during times of crisis or when you’re struggling with a specific issue.

  • Consultation team:
Know that your therapist is giving you the most effective treatment possible. They attend consultation team meetings to receive ongoing support and guidance from a DBT certified trainer.

These components work together to provide a

comprehensive and individualized approach to treatment.

But wait! There’s more…

You’re working with the best here

The Well Equipped team is comprised of highly qualified professionals who specialize in Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) who are dedicated to providing expert care for emotional regulation and mental health challenges.

  • DBT Expert Led: Our staff is guided by Director of Training, Julie Trim, PhD, a licensed clinical psychologist and DBT-LBC Certified Clinician with over 15 years of experience supervising clinicians in navigating clients with complex emotional challenges. Specializing in Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), Dr. Trim’s support allows our clinicians to provide exceptional research-backed treatment to each client.

  • Experience with Complex Diagnoses: With decades of experience in treating individuals with complex mental health conditions, our team excels at using DBT to support those with chronic emotional dysregulation, eating disorder, substance use and self-harm behaviors.

  • Evidence-Based Approach: Each team member is dedicated to using evidence-based DBT interventions, regularly engaging in ongoing training and research to stay at the cutting edge of mental health treatment.

  • Comprehensive DBT Treatment: From our intensive outpatient program to individual DBT sessions and weekly group therapy, the Well Equipped team is committed to offering a full-spectrum DBT program that empowers clients to develop lasting emotional resilience and mental well-being.

  • In February 2025, Well Williamsburg partnered with like-minded organizations to create Well Behavioral Health (WBH), a collaborative outpatient network focused on holistic healing and comprehensive care. As part of WBH, our team joins a community of outpatient providers united by a shared mission to deliver client-centered, integrative care. A WBH clinician offers not only their own expertise but also the collective knowledge and resources gained through collaboration across all WBH-affiliated organizations.

what will I learn?

  • Do you struggle asking for what you want, setting boundaries, repairing relationships that are worth repairing, or do you just want to get better at communicating? DBT has a skill for that.

  • These skills help you know what you’re feeling (sometimes that can be confusing, am I right?). They’ll also help you act in your best interest (even when you feel like saying f it), and cultivate more good vibes (and who couldn’t use more good vibes?).

  • Ever feel like everything is out of control and nothing is ok? Maybe you’ve even ended up hurting yourself or doing something you really wish you hadn’t. Distress tolerance skills help you find possibility when everything seems hopeless.

  • Mindfulness skills help you cultivate a more mindful and accepting way of relating to yourself and the world. With practice, mindfulness can become a valuable tool for reducing emotional reactivity, enhancing self-awareness, and fostering a sense of calm, and balance.

we’re on your team

  • Sarah Chipps, PsyD

    Clinical Director

Dr. Chipps specializes in the treatment of eating disorders, substance abuse, and trauma. She is a regular presenter at conferences on topics such the client/therapist relationship, creativity in the treatment of eating disorders, and treating dissociative disorders. Her own recovery from an eating disorder and substance dependence gives Sarah an inside perspective that helps her both support and challenge clients.

“Being well equipped for life means having skills for managing whatever life events come our way. Hard things and situations are going to happen and if I’m well equipped I’ll be able to take a pause and decide how I want to respond in both joyous and difficult times.”

Dr. Chipps’ favorite DBT skill is Check the Facts.

“There have been many times in my life when I have believed that my emotions were telling me the truth, and I ended up in a lot of unnecessary fear. Fortunately, I have a very “bad” imagination, most of my fears don’t come true, and by using Check the Facts, I can calm my active imagination down more quickly these days.”

  • Julie Trim, PhD

    Director of Training

Dr. Julie Trim is a DBT-LBC Certified Clinician and has 15 years of treating eating disorders at the residential, partial hospitalization (PHP), intensive outpatient (IOP), and outpatient levels of care. “Well Equipped to me means having the tools to be able to live the life you want. It means acting in accordance with your values and navigating life’s challenges with resilience and growth.”

Dr. Trim’s favorite clinical skill is Dialectics/ Walking the Middle Path.

“I really value balance in all areas of life, and tend to see things in “gray” as opposed to black and white.”

  • Ari Rosenberg, MHC-LP

    Program Therapist

Ari is a DBT trained therapist with previous experience working in a DBT IOP setting and consultation team. Ari is a huge fan of DBT and we couldn’t be more thrilled to have Ari on our team!

“Being well-equipped for life would translate to our having the skills needed to effectively modulate emotional lability and mood-dependent behaviors as well as learning to trust and validate our own thoughts, behaviors, and emotional experiences. While this is far from an easy task, the hope would be that ultimately, with these capacities, we would be able to move through life in a way that is generally aligned with our long-term values and goals”

Ari’s favorite DBT skill is Meaning (from IMPROVE).
”When in a state of suffering or distress, or when faced with the suffering of others, I often turn towards a sense of meaning, purpose, and values to motivate me to move forward in acceptance and problem solving.”
